AI Search and SEO for Trades in Ireland: What Tradespeople Should Do (and Ignore)

If you run a plumbing, roofing or building business in Ireland, you have probably heard that AI is changing how people find tradespeople online. You may also have had a pitch for an "AI SEO" package. Here is a plain look at what the term means, what to check on your own site, and what to ignore.
What people mean by "AI SEO"
The phrase gets used for a few different things:
- AI in search. Some search tools now write a short answer instead of only showing a list of links, so your business may be mentioned, or not, inside that answer.
- AI tools for doing SEO work. Using software to draft pages, write descriptions or sort through data.
- A sales label. Some companies attach "AI" to ordinary services to make them sound new.
Asking about it is reasonable. Nobody outside the search companies knows exactly how these tools pick what to mention, so be wary of anyone who says they do.
What probably doesn't change
The basics that help a customer or a search engine understand your business are sensible whatever tools are used. None of them is a guaranteed ranking factor, but they are the foundation:
- A clear website. It says what you do, in plain words.
- Service and area pages. One page per main service, with the places you actually cover.
- Accurate business details. Name, phone number, email and service areas that match everywhere.
- Reviews. Real ones from real customers.
- Proof of real work. Photos and examples from jobs you have done.

What to check on your own site this week
You do not need a tool for this. Open your website on your phone and go through it as a customer would:
- Does each service page say what you do? "Roof repairs" is better than "all your roofing needs".
- Does it say where you work? Name the towns and counties you really cover.
- Can someone contact you within a few seconds? Phone number and enquiry form should be easy to find.
- Do your name, address (if you show one) and phone number match across your website and Google Business Profile?
- Is your Google Business Profile accurate: categories, opening hours, service areas, website link?
- Do you have recent photos of your own jobs on the site and the profile?
- Are you replying to reviews, good and bad, in a calm and professional way?
If you work in Cork, our page on marketing for trades in Cork covers the local side in more detail.
What to be sceptical of
Some warning signs when someone sells you "AI SEO":
- Guaranteed rankings or guaranteed AI mentions. Nobody controls Google or any AI tool, so nobody can promise this.
- Hundreds of AI-written pages. Bulk pages with the town name swapped in add little for a customer and can make your site look careless.
- Vague deliverables. If you cannot get a straight answer to "what exactly will you do each month?", be careful.
- No mention of your real business. If nothing in the plan involves your jobs, your reviews or your profile, it is probably generic.
Using AI tools to tidy a draft is not a problem in itself. The problem is publishing generic text that says nothing true about your work.
Real proof beats generic content
Anyone can generate a page about roof repairs. Not everyone can show real jobs. Genuine photos, real customer feedback and worked examples are things a generic page cannot copy, and they help a homeowner decide whether to ring you.
That is why we put case studies on our own site. Our Cork Roof Repairs case study and our Weather Master Kerry case study are examples of showing real work on a real site. You can browse the rest on our case studies page. Think about what you could add to your own site in the same spirit: a few before-and-after photos, a short note on the job, and the area it was in. Always get the customer's agreement first.
Who should handle this, and when to get help
You can probably do these yourself: the checklist above, updating your Google Business Profile, asking happy customers for reviews, and sending job photos to whoever manages your site.
It may be time to talk to someone: if your site is slow, out of date or hard to use on a phone, if you have no service or area pages, or if you want a second opinion on an "AI SEO" quote before you pay for it.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a separate AI SEO strategy as a tradesperson?
Probably not. A clear site, accurate business details, reviews and real proof of your work are a sensible base whatever tools people use to search. If someone is selling you something extra, ask what it involves and how you would see the results.
Should I use AI to write my website pages?
You can use it to help with drafts, but check everything. Make sure it names the services you actually offer and the areas you actually cover, and add details only you know, such as the type of jobs and the materials you use. Avoid publishing lots of near-identical pages.
Can anyone guarantee my business will show up in AI answers?
No. Be cautious of anyone who says they can. You can make your business easy to understand and easy to trust, but you cannot control what a search or AI tool shows.
